International Day of Yoga 2019

The development of Yoga goes back more than 5000 years. Yoga teachers created a system of practices designed to rejuvenate the body and prolong life.


Recognizing its popularity and motivated by the prime Minister of India, His Excellency Mr. Narendra Modi, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The celebration of this day began in 2015 to create a global awareness of the multiple benefits of practicing yoga for physical, mental and spiritual health, as well as to promote coexistence in peace and harmony.

Information on events organized by the embassy, with the support of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in new Delhi, Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unitei, Siddha and Homeopathy – AYUSH – from India, local partners and Yoga Academies, to celebrate the day International Yoga 2019 in different cities of Colombia, is given below. All events will include a common Yoga protocol session and are open to the public at no cost. However, participants are required to bring their own yoga mats, water bottles and have to wear comfortable clothes.
