Re-issue of International Driving Permit (IDP) - for Indians in Ecuador ONLY

Re-issuance of International Driving Permit (IDP) has been added to the list of Consular Services provided by Embassy with effective from February 15, 2021, however this facility is being provided to Indian nationals only in Ecuador (as Ecuador is Signatory of Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, 1949, and Colombia is not). IDP helps the Indian Citizen to drive vehicle which is allowed to drive as per Indian Driving Licence, in foreign country which are the signatory of Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, 1949. Presently, the applicants are required to apply for re-issue of IDP in India only. Therefore, in coordination of MoRTH, this service for re-issue of IDP as one of the consular services has been added at the Embassy. 

MoRT&H has issued a notification no. G.S.R. 15(E) dated 07.01.2021 regarding issuance of International Driving Permit (IDP) that revised rules shall come into effect w.e.f. 15.02.2021.

The procedure for applying re-issue of International Driving Permit (IDP) is as given below:

  1. Applicant has to fill the Miscellaneous Consular Service form to avail this service.
  2. Pay a fee of US $ 12 (Excluding DHL fee) towards accepting the application of re-issue of International Driving Permit (IDP). Inlcuding DHL (for sending back the Passport, driving licenses, Proof of payment receipt), it will be USD $62. CLICK HERE for Bank details Pichincha Account of Embassy. It may be noted that this fee is different from the application fee if any that is paid in the Parivahan portal for re-issue of IDP.
  3. Send Original Passport, Original Domestic (Indian) Driving License, original expired International Driving Permit (IDP) for verification.
  4. Proof of residence in Ecuador.
  5. Mission/Post will issue a receipt to the applicant with following details on it: (a) Name of the applicant as per Passport, (b) Expired IDP number of the applicant
  6. Applicant will apply for fresh issue of IDP through the portal https://www.parivahan.gov.in and will upload the documents, including the receipt issued by Indian Mission/ Post abroad as mandated under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. On receipt of application through the portal, the licencing authority, on verification of the documents, shall issue the IDP and shall courier it directly to the address of the applicant.

It may please be noted that MoRTH issues the IDP based on the domestic driving license issued to applicant in India and the applicant is required to carry his/ her domestic driving license along with IDP.

It may be noted that Embassy only verifiy physically the validity of applicant’s domestic (Indian) driving license and issues a receipt of the same confirming the particulars and the applicant has to apply for IDP separately at the portal given above and Embassy cannot interven in re-issue of International Driving Permit (IDP)
