About Us Application for Fresh/New OCI card

Make sure to read the general but important instructions related to OCI, available at (CLICK HERE), eligibility criteria below, before submitting the application. 

Registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) - Eligibility:

Following categories of foreign nationals are eligible for registration of Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholder

a)  Any person of full age and capacity

  • Who is a citizen of another country, but was a citizen of India at the time of, or at any time after the commencement of the Constitution i.e. 26 January 1950; or
  • Who is a citizen of another country, but was eligible to become a citizen of India at the time of commencement of the Constitution i.e. 26 January 1950; or
  • Who is a citizen of another country, but belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15 August 1947; or
  • Who is a child or grandchild or great grandchild of such a citizen; or

b) A person, who is a minor child of a person mentioned in (a) above;

c) A person, who is a minor child, and whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India; or

d) Spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder registered under section 7A of the Citizenship act, 1955 and whose marriage has been registered and subsided for a continuous period of not less than 2 years immediately preceeding the presentation of the application for OCI card.

Note: NO person, who or either of whose parents or grandparents of great grandparents is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country as the Central Government may, by notification in the official Gazette, specify, shall be eligible for registration as OCI cardholder.

Note: As per the new regulations of OCI, all OCI applicants must come to Embassy for Submitting Biometrics/Finger-Prints. Time will be intimated and decided based on the convenience of the Embassy officials and the Applicant as well. Applicants under 7 years old and above 70 years old are exempted of this requirement.

The procedure to apply for OCI Card is the following:

1. Fill online OCI application form (Part A)

Visist https://ociservices.gov.in/ (Click to proceed)

Read the instructions provided carefully.

Select the type of Service (New OCI Registration) if you are applying for a Fresh OCI card and click Proceed.

If you are going to convert your valid PIO card to an OCI card, enter the option OCI Registration (In Lieu of Valid PIO-Card)

Read the instructions provided carefully.

Complete the application by properly filling all the details without any spelling mistakes and Submit the application after previewing the same.

(While filling the application, please select the Place of Submission as Colombia and Mission Bogota, even if you are filling from Ecuador)

At the preview page, you should have received a temporary ID on the email ID provided, you can use this to retrieve the application if you have not Submitted the application.

After you Submit the application sucessfully, OCI application number will be generated and that should start with COLB**** 

Please upload the photo and signature as per the guidelines and dimensions mentioned in the website. You can crop the Photo and Signature after uploading for chosing the best composition. After you upload the photo and Signature, Submit the same and proceed further.

2.  Part B: Submit the application, you will be asked for few clarifications/declarations and fill all the details as applicable and Submit.

3.  Upload all the documents. In case if you have closed the browser or session before uploading the documents, go to OCI document upload/re-upload option and can proceed further by entering you passport details and application number/online Registration number that you have received on your email ID already.

You may need to upload : Current passport, Indian origin proof (as applicable), Indian Visa (as applicable), PIO card (as applicable), Indian ralation's Passport/OCI card (as applicable), Relationship Certificate/proof, Marriage Certificate (Apostilled).

For Minor upload the following documents and also present them at the Mission: Apostilled Birth Certificate (if baby is born outside India), Apostilled Marriage Certificate (if Marriage Certificate was issued outside India by Foreign Govts.) of parentsCopy of parent's passports (self-attested by parents) must be uploaded as Relationship Certificate.

4.  If the documents are originated outside India (issued by Foreign Govt./authorities) the same should be uploaded after getting the documents apostilled from corresponding Govt. authorities. If the original documents are in Foreign langauges other than English (other than Indian languages), the same should be translated into English first, get the translated (English) documents apostilled from corresponding Govt. authorities and then upload the same.

5.  Print the application (suggested to print on high Quality Paper and preferably using a Laserjet Printer otherwise The Embassy will not be able to read the data using Barcode Scanners, in that case the applicant has to send again) and sign at the places provided.

If minor is above 5 years old, minor has to sign the OCI application form. If minor is below 5 years old, he / she must put thumb impression. OCI application form must contain parent's signature in the second page.

6. Letter requesting service to the Embassy of India signed by the Applicant. In the case of Minors signed by both parents.

7. Proof of Indian relationship (Copy of Husband / wife / Father / Mother passport, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate) all of these self-attested documents. In case of Spouse of Indian national: Provide letter/declaration indicating that in case of separation, divorce or death of Indian Spouse, the OCI holder will submit the OCI to the Indian Embassy.

8. Proof of residency in Colombia or Ecuador (Letter from your employer, or a bill of any public bill of residence on your name)

9. Recent proof of your place of residency in India

10. Original Applicant's passport

11. Three (3) photographs 5cm x 5cm (White/light background)

DHL(optional):
Need to pay DHL/Courier charges in case if the applicants want the Embassy to send bank the documents/Passports through courier. If the applicants are going to collect the documents/Passports directly from the Embassy, No need to pay this amount. Please check the fee chart regarding how much to pay.
