Visit of Minister of State for External Affairs, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi to Ecuador (4-7 November 2023)

 Minister of State for External Affairs (MoS), Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, paid an official visit to Ecuador from 4-7 November 2023. This was her first visit to Ecuador.

2. During her visit, MoS held meetings with Ecuador’s leadership. MoS called-on President of Ecuador, Mr. Guillermo Lasso on 7 November 2023.

3. MoS met Foreign Minister of Ecuador, H.E. Mr. Gustavo Manrique Miranda on 7 November 2023. The two leaders undertook a comprehensive review of the entire gamut of bilateral relations and discussed strengthening cooperation in a number of areas, including deepening trade and investments, pharmaceuticals, health and traditional medicines, education, mobility, environment, sustainable development, renewable energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges. The two sides also discussed cooperation in the United Nations Security Council and agreed to work closely with each other on multilateral issues of mutual interest.

4. MoS oversaw the signing of an MoU between Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and its counterpart drug regulatory organisation in Ecuador.

5. During the visit, MoS also interacted with the Indian community and recognised their role in India’s transformational journey and invited them to contribute to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. MoS met ITEC alumni and recognised their role as the bridge connecting India and Ecuador, in various fields.

6. MoS participated in a Yoga session organised by the Art of Living foundation in Quito.
