Telephone Conversation between Prime Minister and President of Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke on phone today with H.E. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its likely health and economic impacts in the region.

Prime Minister assured the Sri Lankan President that India would continue to provide all possible support to Sri Lanka for mitigating the effects of the pandemic.

President Rajapaksa briefed PM on the steps being taken by his Government to restart economic activity. In this context, both leaders agreed on the need to accelerate Indian-assisted development projects in Sri Lanka. They also discussed the possibilities of promoting investments and value-addition in Sri Lanka by the Indian private sector.

Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes for the health and wellbeing of the Sri Lankan people.

El Primer Ministro Shri Narendra Modi habló hoy por teléfono con S.E. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, presidente de Sri Lanka, sobre la actual pandemia de COVID-19 y sus probables impactos para la salud y económicos en la región.

El primer ministro aseguró al presidente de Sri Lanka que India continuará brindando todo el apoyo posible a Sri Lanka para mitigar los efectos de la pandemia.

El presidente Rajapaksa informó al Primer Ministro sobre los pasos que está tomando su gobierno para reiniciar la actividad económica. En este contexto, ambos líderes coincidieron en la necesidad de acelerar los proyectos de desarrollo asistidos por la India en Sri Lanka. También discutieron las posibilidades de promover inversiones y valor agregado en Sri Lanka por parte del sector privado indio.

El Primer Ministro transmitió sus mejores deseos para la salud y el bienestar del pueblo de Sri Lanka.
