Instructions for surrendering your Indian passport (After acquiring another nationality and Indian passport has been cancelled)

Surrender of Indian Passport by erstwhile Citizens of India and Renunciation of Indian nationality

(a) Under the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, persons of Indian origin are NOT allowed to hold DUAL Citizenship. If a person had ever held Indian nationality (and Passport) and subsequently voluntarily obtained nationality / Passport of another country, he / she ceases to be an Indian national and is required only to surrender his /her Indian Passport by filling online application. A passport Surrender Certificate is a mandatory document for applying for OCI.

(b)    Steps to apply for Surrender Certificate through online portal: Complete the online application form on the new GPSP Version 2.0 portal (https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/)

(Step-A: Register first by choosing the Embassy/Consular as Colombia - Bogota and filling your details. You will get an activation email link to your email after successful sign-up.

Step-B: Activate the user by clicking on the link received on your registered email address and using the option User Login, login with your registered email Id/User Id and Password in the above portal,

Step-C: After successfully logging to the portal, click on the option Surrender of Passport and submit the application after filling all the details successfully.)

Please PRINT the successfully submitted application form on white paper NOT on reusable paper, as the photo and signature on the first page of the application will be printed on the Passport and if you print the application on reusable paper, the quality of the scan will be reduced while processing the application. Also, please do not forget to paste Passport Size photo (preferably 5cm * 5 cm) and sign on the application after you print the submitted application form.

Please submit your application along with the supporting Documents required:

(a) Duly completed form as above (https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/)

(b) Two photographs 5cm x 5cm High Quality with white back-ground

(c) Copy of old/last Indian passport and Foreign passports

(d) Copy of Nationality / Decree (signed copy) of obtaining nationality certificate showing date and method (registration /naturalisation etc.) of obtaining foreign nationality.

(e)  Residential proof (Copy of energy bill, phone bills etc):

(f) Copy of Renunciation of Nationality issued by the Embassy of India, if applicable. 

(g)  A letter containing your detailed information (email, home address, mobile number) including Address with zip code that it can be found in www.codigopostal.gov.co or www.codigopostal.gob.ec and asking for the Surrender of Passport Certificate.

DHL(optional): Need to pay DHL/Courier charges in case if the applicants want the Embassy to send bank the documents/Passports through courier. Renunciation of Indian nationality under Section 8 of Indian citizenship Act

This service is applicable only to Indian nationals / Indian passport holders and not for those who already hold foreign / Colombian nationality / passport. Any Indian citizen can renounce his/her citizenship by making a declaration in the Form XXII specified in Rule 23 of The Citizenship Rules, 2009. The application Form has to be filled only on the online portal of MHA https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce. Once the citizenship renunciation certificate is issued, the applicant has to surrender his Indian passport as per procedure.
