Embassy of India to Celebrate Gandhi Jayanti at Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano

The Embassy of India in Bogota will commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano (Utadeo University) on 2 October 2026.

2. The event will be held at the University, which houses a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, symbolising the enduring relevance of his ideals of peace, non-violence, truth and respect for humanity. The occasion will bring together representatives of the Embassy, University authorities, faculty members, students, Indian community members and friends of India.
3. Ambassador of India to Colombia, Dr. Vinod Bahade, will lead the commemoration and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The event will also be attended by senior officials and members of the Utadeo University community, including faculty members and students. During the event, Ambassador will also inaugurate an exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi, showcasing his life, philosophy and enduring contribution to the cause of peace, non-violence and social harmony.
4. The commemoration at Utadeo University reflects the close cultural and educational ties between India and Colombia and provides an opportunity to introduce younger generations to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and its continuing global relevance and strengthen people-to-people ties. 
5. Mahatma Gandhi’s message of truth, non-violence, tolerance and peaceful coexistence continues to resonate across societies and remains particularly relevant in addressing contemporary global challenges. His birth anniversary is observed in India as Gandhi Jayanti and internationally as the International Day of Non-Violence, proclaimed by the United Nations in recognition of his contribution to the philosophy of non-violence.
